From network to shop floor
How to measure your personal success in manufacturing
A few weeks ago, I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the networking event ‘Erfolg hoch X’ (Success to the Power of X), which was all about success. It was my first event of this kind, and what an event it was. Many people from a wide variety of industries, all united by the desire to achieve their goals and make a difference. The evening was all about one topic: success. Not only during the evening itself, but especially in the time afterwards, this topic continued to occupy my thoughts. One thing became particularly clear to me:
Success is not a universal benchmark, but a personal definition.
For some, success may be record sales in this quarter, for others it may be the balance between career and family. Still others may define success by the reach of their message or the innovation of a new product they launch on the market. Personally, I define my success largely through sport, as this is my great passion. Ultimately, there is no universal ‘stamp of success,’ and that's a good thing.
Success in business
In the business world in particular, the concept of success is often reduced to key figures: profit, turnover and growth. These figures are important, no question, but they only tell half the story.
True entrepreneurial success arises when vision meets efficient and transparent implementation.
This is precisely where the bridge is built to the technological aids that transform our work. Thinking more deeply about success has shown me how crucial it is to look behind the scenes, especially in the manufacturing industry.
Success through transparency and control
If your success depends on your manufacturing processes running smoothly, then transparency is essential. At tetys, our MES system embodies precisely this idea.
For a manufacturing company, the definition of success could be:
• On-time delivery to customers
• Minimisation of bottlenecks and unplanned downtime
• Optimal utilisation of machinery and personnel
This is where tetys comes in: real-time collection of operating and machine data (BDE/MDE) provides your company with a clear, data-driven basis for decision-making. True success in manufacturing only comes when the best theoretical planning can also be implemented in practice. By directly linking detailed planning, production data acquisition and machine data acquisition, we avoid information loss and delays. If a bottleneck changes on the shop floor, this is immediately fed back into the planning system so that optimised re-planning can take place in real time.
When you suddenly know where you can minimise bottlenecks and shorten throughput times, you are taking a big step towards your defined success. Our software helps to make the goal – whether it's higher profitability or simply smoother production – measurable and achievable.
The path to personal and professional success
This inspiring evening showed me that whether your success lies in finding the best software solution for your manufacturing process or redefining your own path, the first step is always to define yourself and your goals. At tetys, this success means making our customers' production goals not only measurable but also reliable. Because at the end of the day, the real key to success is to clearly define your own route and maintain control over its implementation.
Success is a journey, not a destination. And the beauty of it is that you determine the route yourself.
