What moving house and production optimisation have in common
Time for something new?
What do moving house to another country and production planning have in common? At first glance, not much. But once I tell you about my recent move, you'll understand the connection better. Let me just say this: ‘Planning is key!’ Whether in your private life or in operational production.
The housing market in Germany is notoriously difficult, but in the Netherlands, especially in smaller towns, it is even harder to find something suitable. After many rejections and a great deal of frustration, I was finally lucky enough to find the perfect flat for me. A new chapter. However, the long dry spell not only brought me relief, but also made me think. Why was it so difficult to find an apartment?
Do you know what I realised then? The turning point in my flat search was the moment I became more active and made a more detailed plan. For a long time, I only looked at free websites because that had worked for many of my friends. But the feeling of stagnation and uncertainty caused by the many rejections grew stronger and stronger. When I took out my first paid subscription, I had three viewings straight away. I also started making lists to define exactly where I wanted to live and what criteria were important to me.
And eventually, it worked out. Finally, it was time for a new apartment and a new chapter in the Netherlands.
This feeling of stagnation and uncertainty can be found one-to-one in production planning. Here, too, it sometimes seems impossible to find the right way to be efficient. Unplanned downtime, missing materials or unclear orders can bring production to a standstill – just as the many rejections brought my apartment search to a standstill.
FROM HOUSE HUNTING TO PRODUCTION OPTIMISATION
My experience has opened my eyes to something that we do every day for our customers at tetys: we help companies overcome stagnation and ensure quality, for example. In production, the lack of transparency is often the biggest problem. Machines are producing, but no one knows exactly when which product will be ready, where bottlenecks lurk or when production will come to a standstill. Without a clear plan, you run the risk of losing time, money and nerves.
Just as I used the right factors to find my way when looking for a flat, tetys' MES system uses precise data to bring clarity to production. Our software makes the factory intelligent by collecting and analysing machine data, energy data and operating data in real time. Instead of planning blindly, our customers can make informed decisions.
The data provides answers to critical questions:
- When is a machine actually operating at full capacity?
- How long does a particular production step really take?
- What bottlenecks exist in the material flow?
Planning is no longer a guessing game, but a data-driven process that reduces downtime and increases efficiency.
PLANNING IS KEY - IN LIFE AND IN PRODUCTION
The turning point in my search for a flat was the moment I stopped hoping for luck and started taking matters into my own hands. I learned that investing in the right tools and gathering the right information makes all the difference.
It's no different in manufacturing. Many companies still work with spreadsheets or manual plans – an approach comparable to trying to find your dream flat on free, crowded property portals. It may work, but the journey is often long, frustrating and full of uncertainties.
With tetys solutions, companies can turn over a new leaf. You can digitise production and rely on real-time data and intelligent planning. What may seem like a complicated change at first is ultimately an investment in a more efficient, productive and stress-free future.
CONCLUSION
My move showed me that planning is the key to success in everyday life. That's why I'm all the more delighted to be working at tetys, helping companies to apply this insight to their own future. And perhaps this article will prompt some of you to rethink your planning in life – or in production.
